In 1912 in Alta Vista, Virginia, father and son John and Ed Lane bought a factory and began designing and creating chests. Unsure of its potential, the Lanes managed the company but did not put their name to it. By the mid 1950s the company has expanded and was designing tables, case goods, mirrors etc… Their most iconic design is the Lane Cedar Chest made from the original cedar in Lane Altavista.
Lane furniture has very recognisable trade mark features, such as the geometric patterns on the façade and the sturdiness of their designs. The craftsmanship and woodwork on all the pieces is exceptional giving the pieces a dynamic and interesting feel. The bow fronted designs on the smaller cabinets gives a softness to the designs which balances harmoniously with the bold shapes on the doors.
