From pretty courtyards to landscaped gardens and window boxes, your outside space can add appeal to your property.
"By introducing one strong element such as a sculpture, a garden of any size can be transformed," says Talisman's Managing Director, Kenneth Bolan, whose Gillingham showroom grounds showcase bold interpretation of how to create a stylish outdoor space. "Such a piece may sit well as a focal point in either a fountain or at the end of a vista, but equally would be well-positioned in a shady, fern-like, grotto-esque space".
For a larger scale feature Kenneth suggests using columns: "These provide a wonderful opportunity to create a pergola, temple or merely articulate a simple space, and a pair of large terracotta pots positioned at the end of a long water feature can immediately conjure up thoughts of the Mediterranean." he adds. "The material, and sometimes scale of these pots, provides an opportunity to use plants from that area such as an olive tree as well as opting for more exotic plants such as palms and bamboos." If you prefer the idea of an English themed garden, Kenneth suggests using more traditional plants: "The topiary box and yew are a staple diet of the formal English garden. A combination of topiary yew, pleached lime walks (where trees are interlaced to produce a narrow screen or hedge) and gravel all indicate a strict formality."
