ONE PERFECT LAMP

Ice Light, Rougier (c.1970): It’s not really an ice light, of course: its seven pulled-toffee spires are made of white acrylic. But as Rougier, the short-lived Canadian lighting manufacturer, numbered rather than named its products, you can call it whatever you wish. “Snow Crown”? “Plastic Fantastic”? Certainly few understood this most 1970s of materials as well as Rougier, though its fantastical, fecund designs – typically a series of organic shapes wrapped around a central well of light – are only now being rediscovered. Put this metre-high lamp where viewers can circle around it, and they’ll see from every angle just how surprising moulded polymethyl methacrylate can be.

Rougier Lamps are available at Talisman.
