Talisman Events - GEOFFREY DASHWOOD at TALISMAN

Talisman is delighted to be hosting an exhibition of works by the eminent contemporary sculptor Geoffrey Dashwood from 4th-31st May 2013. This will be a major exhibition of the artist's work outside London, with Talisman showcasing his bronzes, ranging from life-sized to monumental works, throughout their West Country based showroom.

Dashwood is widely renowned for his abstracted sculptures of different breeds of birds. His play with scale, simplification of form and the unique and signature colouring of his bronzes is perfectly displayed through the wide range of pieces for sale through this exhibition.

"I respect my subjects purely and simply for what they are and attempt to realise their spirit in sculpture. I have adopted a ruthless, reductive technique. Empathy is conveyed with minimal simplicity and the work allowed to speak emphatically for the bird that inspired it."
- Geoffrey Dashwood

This exhibition coincides with the installation of Dashwood's monumental (and unmissable!) Peregrine Falcon at local Port Regis School in early April 2013. 1.6 tonnes of bronze was used to create this dramatic sculpture of the fastest creature on the planet, cast as a limited edition of 6, situated in pride of place for pupils and parents to enjoy. A subsequent competition is being held for all of the school pupils to be inspired by the sculptors work.

Talisman have joined forces with internationally acclaimed charity Tusk for the launch of this exhibition. Since its formation in 1990 Tusk has raised over £20m for a wide range of projects across Africa, which not only work to protect wildlife, particularly endangered species, but also help to alleviate poverty through sustainable development and education programmes amongst rural communities living alongside wildlife. HRH The Duke of Cambridge became Royal Patron of Tusk in December 2005 since when he has been an active supporter of the Charity's work.

"Tusk is delighted to be collaborating with Talisman and highlight our work with communities in Africa, particularly as the current escalation in rhino and elephant poaching presents an immediate threat to the viability of these iconic species. We cannot be the generation that allows this to happen."
- Charlie Mayhew MBE
CEO of Tusk
